Mela ("we", "us", or "our") operates the Mela mobile application and the mela.kr website. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and protect your personal information when you use our services.

1. Information We Collect

We collect the following types of information:

  • Phone number — required for account creation and event notifications
  • Email address — optional, used for account recovery and email notifications
  • Event interactions — events you browse, RSVP to, or purchase tickets for
  • Device information — device type, operating system version, and app version for troubleshooting
  • Location (approximate) — city-level only, to show you events nearby. We do not track precise GPS location.

2. How We Use Your Information

Your information is used to:

  • Send event notifications and updates relevant to you
  • Process ticket purchases and provide event check-in functionality
  • Improve app functionality and user experience
  • Communicate important service updates (e.g., app launches, maintenance)
  • Provide organizer insights in aggregate, anonymized form (e.g., attendee count by city)

3. Data Storage

Your data is stored securely using Supabase, a cloud database service with enterprise-grade security. Data is encrypted in transit (TLS) and at rest. Our database servers are located in AWS's Asia-Pacific region.

4. Third-Party Sharing

We do not sell your personal data to third parties. We may share limited data with:

  • Payment processors (KakaoPay, Toss, Naver Pay) — only the information required to process ticket purchases
  • Event organizers— your name and ticket information for events you've registered for
  • Analytics services — anonymized, aggregated usage data to improve the app

5. Your Rights

You have the right to:

  • Access your personal data — request a copy of the data we hold about you
  • Modify your personal data — update your phone number, email, or profile information at any time
  • Delete your account and all associated data — see our Account Deletion Policy for details
  • Opt out of marketing notifications at any time through app settings

6. Data Retention

We retain your data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we will remove your personal data within 30 days, except where we are required by law to retain certain records (e.g., transaction history for tax purposes, retained for up to 5 years).

7. Children's Privacy

Mela is not intended for use by individuals under the age of 14. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will delete it.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Effective date" at the top and notify users through the app. Continued use of Mela after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
